One time Bhattar was waiting for Perumal's puRappAdu. A long time passed, but Nameperumal did not come on the streets. Puzzled by this, Bhattar asked a passer-by what had happened.

He replied "A dog had entered the temple earlier in the day. So, they are now waiting to do a purification ceremony before Namperumal can leave".

Bhattar then went to the temple and standing before Namperumal cried to Him "O Lord! If you have to go through a purification ceremony because a dog entered the temple, how many great purification ceremonies do you have to go through because adiyEn, who is lower than a dog, am entering the temple many times each day".
