Kolariyazhvan came to Bhattar and asked him to teach him something beneficial.

Bhattar looked at him and the Lord and prayed for him in his mind to the Lord.

He then told Kolariyazhvan the following: "You have wasted countless births thus far. Amongst these countless births, at least in this birth, consider the Lord to be both the means and the goal and be steady that only He is the true means ('vruthaiva bhavatO yAtA bhUyasI janma santati: | tasyAmanyatamam janma sanjcintya sharaNam vraja ||')".
