Vyakhyana Saram:
In this shloka, Swami Desikan is saluting the great Acharya
who was first called Lokacharya by Kandhadai Thozhappar after
seeing his great magnanimity. His acharya Nanjeeyar called
him Nampillai after seeing his great knowledge. He was born
on Karththigai thirunakshathram in the month of Karththigai
- the same as Thirumangai Azhvar, who is called Kalikanri.
Hence he was called Kalikanri Dasar. He is the mahAcharya
who gave us the incomparable Idu vyakhyanam for Azhvar's
Thiruvaymozhi. His disciple was Vadakkuth Thiruveedhip Pillai
whose children were Pillai Lokacharyar (named for Nampillai)
and Azhagiya Manavala Perumal Nayanar.
