Vyakhyana Saram:
Because this work is "Sharanagati Deepikai" Swami Desikan explains the many meanings of Sharanagati tattvam in it.

Srivachana Bhushanam says "prapaththikku dhEsa niyamamum kAla niyamamum prakAra niyamamum adhikAri niyamamum pala niyamamum illai. vishaya niyamamE uLLadhu." That is, in the matter of Sharanagati, there is no restriction based on place, time, manner, person and goal. The only restriction is to whom it is performed. It has to be done to one who is complete in auspicious and great qualities. Vedanta Desikan shows that this is the case only with Sriman Narayana in the next three shlokas.

This shloka was formed with the same meanings mentioned by Sri Krishna in His Bhagavad Gita. Geethacharya has said that whosoever knows Him as He is, is the one who knows everything. This is mentioned in the second part of this shloka. His characteristics that distinguish Him are mentioned in the first part of the shloka. The most important points of our sampradhayam such as sharIra shArIraka bhAvam, tattva trayam, etc are shown here. His governing this universe while supporting it from within and His having this universe as His body are shown. Azhvar too said "udal misa uyir ena karandhengum parandhuLan". His Lordship of all and His being the source of all are shown. Thiruppananzhvar said "Adhi pirAn". Ramanuja started Sri Bashyam with "akhila bhuvana janma stema bhangAdi lIle". Most importantly His having Sridevi as His consort is mentioned. This sriyapatitvam denotes His being the supreme. By using 'ityAdi', all other characteristics such as having the capacity to give moksha, etc are covered.
