In siRiya thirumadal, Thirumangai Azhvar describes the killing of Kara by Sri Rama in the following manner:
"vennaragam sErA vagaiyE silai kuniththAn"

That is, Sri Rama bent the bow against Kara in such a way that he did not have to see hell.

Sri Nanjeeyar, in his time before meeting Parasara Bhattar, was discussing this with some people.

Some said "The meaning here is that, having been defeated by Rama in battle, Kara would go to the heaven reserved for warriors. Therefore, he would not see hell."

Others objected saying "This does not fit into the context of the pasuram, seeing the lines before and after this line. These lines show the bad things that happened to those who have no love for Him. Therefore, this interpretation cannot be right".

Nanjeeyar then asked one othe people present who was a disciple of Bhattar, "How would Bhattar interpret this line?"

He replied "Bhattar would say thus: 'Seeing Sri Rama with the bent bow and ready to make war, Kara felt that there was no need to go further and experience hell and suffered all those experiences there itself'".

Hearing this, Nanjeeyar replied "I have to see this Bhattar who has made such a lovely interpretation" and was then waiting for the time to meet him.
