Once Bhattar was explaining the meanings of the 94th pasuram of Nammazhvar's Thiruviruththam, that starts with "maippadi mEniyum". At that time, he said "His divine body is such that it will make darkness fall on the minds of those who see Him. That is, they will be driven crazy by His beauty".

Later Nanjeeyar heard about this explanation from some of the people who had listened to Bhattar. Upon which, he said "This is the same as 'innArenRaRiyEn'".

That is, even though He carried the conch and the discus, His beauty is so great that it drove Thirumangai Azhvar so crazy that he could not recognize Him. Azhvar says that in his pasuram "Azhiyodum ponnAr sArngamudaiya adigaLai innAr enRaRiyEn".

When Bhattar heard this correct reference to his explanation for the Thiruviruththam pasuram, he was greatly pleased and asked who had made this connection. Pillai Vizhupparaiyar and Appan Thiruvazhundur Araiyar told him that it was Nanjeeyar who said that. Upon which Bhattar remarked "Having born so far away (in Karnataka), Nanjeeyar yet has come here and given us this connection" and praised his disciple.
