Thiruppavai pasuram 3 - "Ongi uLagaLandha"

Here the vyakhyanam explains that the Lord who slept in the milky ocean (prior pasuram - 'pARkadaluL paiyath thuyinRa paraman') did so to help His devotees. Listening to Indra and other devas, He took the Vamana ("Ongi") avataram and grew. The decrease and growth of samasaris are due to their karmas and their nature, and are therefore dOshas. Whereas His acts are due to His grace and are for others, and are therefore guNas.

Here, an incident in Bhattar's life is recalled.

Bhattar said "srivaikuNtaththilirukkum pOthu samsArikaL- udaiya izhavukkuth thiruvuLLam nonthirukkum". That is, "In SriVaikuntam, the Lord's divine heart is sad thinking about the samsaris".

Upon hearing this, some people commented that how could the Lord who had no wishes that are unsatisfied and who is always filled with joy, be sad.

Bhattar replied "'vyasanEshu manushyANAm' engiRathu guNa prakaraNamO dOsha prakaraNamo". That is "When the Ayodhya people said that Lord Rama feels sad when He sees any of them being sad, is that quality one of dOsha or one of guNa?"
