Vyakhyana Saram:
The term Bhagavan denotes six divine and auspicious qualities. These six qualities are complete in Sriman Narayana. The qualities are: knowledge, strength, wealth, valor, power and splendor.

During the time of praLaya, He swallows all worlds and protects them by keeping them inside Himself. Just as the worlds dissolve in Him, so too all the countless divine qualities such as vAtsalyam, saushIlyam, etc are dissolved in these six qualities.

Some sampradhayas say that He has no qualities other than being pure knowledge. However, our sampradhayam says that He has countless divine qualities and no inauspicious qualities. It is to condemn the other sampradhayas that Swami Nammazhvar started his Thiruvaymozhi by saying "uyarvaRa uyarnalam udaiyavan yavan". It is said that Kooraththazhvan would faint on this line itself every time he started explaining Thiruvaymozhi. Nanjeeyar too would exclaim his amazement on how Azhvar is choking the other sampradhayams in the very first line of his work. Swami Desikan is showing that Sriman Narayana is an ocean for these qualities.

Strength is the ability to run both this world and the other world without any effort. Wealth is not the ordinary wealth that men go after. It is the capacity to govern the entire universe (niyantrutvam). Power is the quality of being able to take and complete anything that He chooses to (satya sankalpa). Splendor is the ability to complete any task, no matter how complex, without the help of any one and with no effort.
