Vyakhyana Saram:
Swami Desikan talks further about the quality of sauhArdam in this
shloka.
Through the phrase 'nigama vartmani nidrAyitAn', those who lack the knowledge to follow the paths mentioned in the Vedas are mentioned. Through the phrase 'prasthAna shakti rahitAn', those who lack the strength to follow those paths, even if they have some understanding of it, are mentioned. Vedanta Desikan says that it is He who wakes up such people due to His grace ('dayayA pratibodhya') and makes them attain some knowledge and strength.
The reason for this is desribed further. Having been advised by Periya Pirattiyar on numerous occasions, He takes whatever little good intents are present in them and makes them much more than they are. This is the same as mentioned by Pillai Lokacharyar as "janma paramparaigaL thORum, yAthrucchikam, prAsangikam, Anushangikam engiRa sukrutha visEshangaLaik kaRpiththuk koNdu thAnE avaRRai onRu paththAkki nadaththik koNdu pORum".
Beings that are very old, infants, ignorant and blind need help to walk in any path. Similar to them, the chetanas too need help which He gives. That is His quality of sauhArdam.
In Varaha Charama shloka, He says "nayAmi paramAm gatim". This is what Swami Desikan restates as "netum yatase".
